![]() In addition to its uses in undergraduate medical education, live streaming can also be used to deliver surgical training to clinicians across the world.Įxample of view from the cadaveric videos (note: this is not a cadaveric specimen) Practical face to face sessions will resume for the majority of sessions but will be supplemented by live streaming for certain elements. Live streaming will continue to be used in anatomy at BSMS. At certain points during the past year, we have delivered all three types of practical teaching using live streaming. ![]() Prosection sessions use pre-dissected specimens with all of the structures that students need to study already revealed.įinally, living anatomy and ultrasound sessions do not use human cadaveric material but rather look at the anatomy we can identify in the living, using palpation (feeling) of structures and ultrasound imaging. Dissection sessions involve an element of active dissection, where students are expected to reveal structures in their groups. These sessions normally fall into one of three types: dissection, prosection or living anatomy and ultrasound. Over the past year we have live streamed numerous sessions to replace the face-to-face practical sessions that would normally run. This allowed us to stream straight from the dissection room to hundreds of students at once. At the beginning of the pandemic, anatomy at BSMS invested in new streaming camera equipment. One of the main methods we used to achieve this was live streaming. It was important to us that we still gave students exposure to human cadaveric material, albeit virtually. This significant increase in digital resources will go on to benefit students for many years to come. After registering, the Complete Anatomy’s Quickstart Guide allows you to select your device type and get a few tips on how to perform certain tasks, such as browsing the model, selecting a structure, editing the models being viewed, searching for terms, and changing various settings including color schemes. At BSMS, the anatomy department have incorporated new digital teaching resources to aid teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is important to register using your Pitt email and follow the steps as described to obtain full access. The “Installation Instructions” section includes download links for Mac or Windows computers, as well as iPad, iPhone, and Android devices. You can download Complete Anatomy from Pitt’s Software Download website. This makes it a great study resource for a variety of disciplines. In addition to the anatomy tools, Complete Anatomy includes over 1,500 videos and several hundred lectures that span across subjects such as anatomy, orthopedics, ophthalmology, cardiology, dentistry, ultrasound, and beyond. You can capture images and other screenshots within the tool and save them for future reference. Radiologic images are also found within Complete Anatomy and include MRIs, CT scans, and angiograms. This resource can be a great way to study human anatomy if you do not have access to the lab or are away from campus. It also features real-time muscle movement and an augmented reality mode that simulates an anatomy lab. ![]() This interactive resource allows you to rotate, zoom, add or remove layers, add labels, and select sections of the model in order to view detailed information about that structure. Complete Anatomy is a 3D human anatomy software program that allows you to view different body systems.
